More about numbers
Okey
another one around numbers. How to check numbers on videos. I got a message
from a band that had over million views on their video and they were excited
about it.
Which is
cool. So I want into Youtube to look on the video and it just had 8000 views.
And the comments was just 300 and all positive witch is strange.
Then I realize
that they were talking about their video on Facebook. Well now we have a
numbers problem. First Facebook starts all its videos automatically so if
people just scroll down suddenly you get a view. So if you repost the song
several times yes you will get a lot of views but really no one has seen it.
So the
Youtube numbers are better in that way. Still you can also set homepages to
start videos when you enter them. A thing that is really annoying but is a
strong reasons why many bigger artists has so many numbers on their videos.
So the best
figures is Spotify because you can’t really manipulate these figures. So I
looked there and the song was under 2000 streams.
In the end,
I’m not so sure about that so many has seen this video. Also Facebook doesn’t
pay anything so that sucks. Youtube pays pretty bad and can be bit manipulated.
So Spotify is the thing right now. I hope Youtube is getting better. Still I’m
not that excited of the Facebook views.
I did a
test I shot out our latest Vblog. And looked today 24 hours later it has 213
views on facebook (yes we release it as its’s own video there and as a link to
youtube). On Youtube it has 10 views. But the page on the blog has been visited
over 70 times. Yes the number doesn’t really add up.

Focus you should only do one thing!
Have you in the last twenty years seen a player playing in the national team in two bigger sports? Like a soccer player also playing in the basket team for their country? No I have never seen it. Still these people that are really dedicated and very skilled should be able to do it?
Not really. To be in the level of a professional soccer player you have to be focused. You can't join two different sports you have to go for one, make a choice. Of course when you are on a low level you can play as many sports you like, but only on a low level just for fun. Also they form their lives for the sport. If a soccer player is drafted for a team they move to that city. They can't skip a practice just since they friends has a party (they actually get fines to miss practice). They live and breathe the sport.
It's the same as artist. If you reach for the biggest stars you have to be focused like a professional athlete. You have to adopt your surroundings to fit your goal.
I meet many artists that has that goal but when they say no to gigs because they can't get time off from work then you start to wonder. Yes a professional soccer player has a salary. Still they had made the same choice earlier, saying no to a nine to five job to play their game. Or artists that has a bunch of diffrent musical projects is the same, it's like playing diffrent sports, it's fun but not focused enough.
You just outcount artists that starts to say no to things. The soccer player would not say no to a practice or a game since they are so focused around the subject. Same with an artist.
A artists that want to be in the top will find ways to get to that gig or practice. If not well it has lost their focus. In a way in the sports world people understand that you won't be drafted for Barcelona FC without work. But in the music industry there is many thinking that it is a reality.
Well right now I’m looking for the focused artists.

Don't be a diva
I run into it sometimes, artists that actually thinks that I will drop anything I do just to get to whatever problem they have. It's very usual for artists that you signed. Suddenly they expect that everything will happens in minutes.
I was sitting in a meeting discussiong a quite big thing around a festival. My phone starts ringing (okey i had it on silence). Several times. I checked who it was and it was an artist we signed a mounth ago. Since the artist was calling on and on. I excused myself from the meeting and called back.
The artist ionöy wnated to know if we had sold any of his songs to commercal yet (just the fact that he hadn't provided me with the instrumentals it was not likley). Stuff like this is the reason why my labels don't want to talk to the artist and sticks with a proffessional manager.
Like one of my artists said today, well artists is not having the same world prospective like the rest, both in a good way and a bad way, mainly bad.

Festivals not that important?
I have heard it over and over on conferances taht the festivals is less and less importanat. And in Sweden right now I think I agree. Three of the biggest oens is this week, Roskilde (it's denmark but many swedes goes there), Bråvalla and Putte i Parken.
The thing is though that there is almost nothing in my feed on facebook about any of them. The media is reporting very small about it. Right now there has been some rapes that has gotten attention, but it's sad that rapes is the thing media now writes about festivals. Rapes it self is just super bad.
I guess the festivals has played out theri roll. In the 90-s when it was hard to find certian music yes fa festival was a place where you can see these really rre band. Also it might b ethe only time of the year you meet people that liked the same music as you did. Today with internwet a band can't be that indei and underground. Internet killed that. At the same place also Internet has much larget hubs for people to meet. A festival before was a place where 50 000 people meet. In intenet standards that extremly small.
No it looks like the festivals had done it's thing. It's game over with the new genration festivals goers. The kids today choose other things to spend their money and time on.

Test new things, don't wait
Today im invited to watch a live show on the new site Strumlive. It's a cool new site. I think it's important to try out new services, not wait until they explode. I remember when I got Spotify and started talking to artists about it. No one wanted to join. Yesterday I got a mail from one of these artists who asked me how to contact Spotify in the best way.
Well a bit to late. If the artist had jumped on the train when we where it should not have been a problem. But doing it today is nearly impossible. So supporting new things is really really important.
So even if Strumlive is just starting, yes i'm on it and hope all luck for them.

How to get a job as an A&R?
I got the
question from a person that went into the blog. I guess we make a post out of
that. To start with myself it all started when I put up my record label Dead
frog records over 25 years ago. In the beginning I was alone in the company so
yes I had to be the A&R. Later on while developing the label we got more people
working around us. I don’t know if we were kind of unique, but we let all
people that worked in the company had something to say. We gathered and all put
in their finds in the demo pile and we discussed witch bands that got to be
signed. Still I was the head A&R.
Today I’m
alone on the post. Sure the rest of the office will hear new acts that I play.
Also comes along and look on new acts to sign when they play live.
I guess
this is the normal way to get to be an A&R. You start your own label and
develop from that. On the big companies then? Usually the A&R work them self’s
up to that position. It’s very rare that you see a record label seeking out an
A&R. It’s more that you start on a lower position in the company and by
working there understand their procedures and in the end get to the A&R
position.
If the
label seeks an A&R they probably would headhunt a person that they want on
that spot. It’s such a specialized work for a label that it’s nothing you just
put someone there. You grow into the work or have done it very successfully
before.
Then today
you also have firms that acts like a satellite A&R outside the office.
There is several of these firms.
Sometimes
also the job comes with a pressure to be successful. The company needs to see
results on what you sign. So if the artist that you sign doesn’t get anywhere it’s
not unusual that you can get fired.
It’s not so
much sitting and listening to music that many thinks (you really don't have the time atht you would like, to do that). You work close with the
artists and takes many decisions around their career. A lot of times also how successful
the artists will be is around the A&R: s network of people to get the
artists opportunities. Some A&R:s are very involved in the process of the
music some is not.
These
factors is why many A&R:s are very protective and very slow on signing new
artists. At the same time they also wants to get on the artist that are hot for
the moment. In those cases they can be very “on” to get to the artist they want.
So this
also means that there is no A&R schools. If you want to be an A&R start
on the PR department. If you get lucky you get in as a trainee and be part of
the A&R team of a bigger company. In a smaller company its usual the owner
that hold the A&R position but still they work with the team so you will be
close to the decisions.

Make a deal?
I got this letter from a band witch I will go through in my Vlog. So you will see it a couple of times. It will have the word letter to it on the right side.
This is part 4 is a sepacial on the word "make a deal".
Business model - as follows...
Part 1
• Continual flow of single package/EP releases.
o Plugging
o Gigs
o Music Video
o Press imagery
o All new release artwork will feature as the backdrop for the website along with
corresponding banners and ‘click-throughs’ to iTunes and/or Spotify – this will
be consistent across all public facing platforms.
Part 2
• Build ‘banked tracks’ – Currently 12 unreleased.
The intention is that if we keep a consistent flow of releases whilst scaling up our investment
(and therefore exposure), we should start to make equivalent ‘noise’ in the industry.
Hopefully this will make the act more attractive to booking agents, labels and/or publishers
Part 3
so that as soon as we are deemed ‘ready’, we will be prepared with:
• more than an albums worth of tracks;
• a solid release campaign template ;
• and a release history with a track record of achievements (sales, venues played, radio
Part 4
The ultimate aims are to secure an agent, an industry immersed co-manager and sign a
deal by the end of 2016/early 2017.

My Birthday!
Yes it's my Birthday! The day I will see how many people that i barley know saying Happy Birthday on Facebook. But if everything is going ok I will be in Taiwan by now. See if how my Wifi things would be and how much I can update. I hope to have done some special updates.
So yes this is written beforehand. Also I think it is Midsummerseve in Sweden today so i guess my facebook feed might be slower or more. More because more peopel get online just for Midsummer ( to damn many pioctures of kids dancing around an upside down penis) or less since people are actually meeting people in real life and that is cool.

Hurray 10 000 views!
YES i just passed 10 000 views on the blog. Well in internet figures is not that much. Still I have proven a point.
I started this blogg beacause I wanted to prove for the artists that I work with that not everything just happens. And you have to be precistant.
So who wants to read about a middelage guy whining about his A&R job. Well someone but it's rather obscure, not like when you have good music to spread. Still the blog got 10 000 views. 200 posts almost took it to get to this amount. I have run 3 or 4 diffrent strategys how to lure people in. And also imagine that 180 of the post was just in Swedish witch limited the blog quite much.
Yes you can do it to collect fans. You just have to hang on to it, and keep it going. If I had my music out I would now had 10000 chanses that people would have been listening. I know not all of them would but lets say 50% that is 5000 listnings. Well maybe it's some that is the same poeple. So let's take the half 2500. It's 2500 people i could have turned into fans if I had music.
Today to be an artist you really have to do this. And there is so many tools to help you out, videos, blogs, sound, images.
So will I stop now, hell no, there is more things to prove and more to whine about.
So here is some more fact
Most read post, is the post when I tell that the Swedish acadamy for music is a bunch of noobs. This got a very big spread. It's in swedish though.
http://ihuvudetpaenar.blogspot.se/2016/05/kungl-musikaliska-akademien-ar-helt.html
The strange part, no one had anything to comment on it. Not even an comment on Facbook where it got the most readers from. And yes with 200 posts, I only have 2 comments. I thought I would have some comments when I wrote that artists are cattle. But nope, the comments are on my April fools joke (witch was my second biggest read post, and yes that one got ALOT of comments on Facebook) and one from a friend that is sarcastic when I shoot down a russian artists.
