Eurovision letters

Sometimes it's fun to be on the other side of the table. I'm also book for showcase festivals, and we were on a fair the other week and now they are pushing out artist to book for the summer.

They use the same methods as I do so it's quite fun to read them.

Right now I got one from a totally new agent, that not even have a homepage. Either he is so new or he just is so lost that he doesn't have one. He represents the act that is like a wild card in this years Eurovision.

Actually, I'm a good friend with the manager of the band, so we had them already booked at our festival this year. The interest though from the audience was very slow.

The funny thing is that the booker indicates that this group has a big chance in their turn in Eurovision. The inside I got is that they are in the hardest round and also with a bad position. The position the booker actually get to be something positive.  Now he offers our festival ( which is the showcase festival) a cheap prize before the contest. The prize is actually too high even after an artist has been in the festival.

The funny thing is that I did a survey before here on the blog in Swedish where I proved that no wildcard has ever survived. Either they come last or second to last. None has even gon up in the price range of booking. In this case, you can easily say that they try to let you buy the pig in the sack (proverb in Swedish).

I wonder if I should send him an offer after they have lost their round. Yes, all the fact is pointing in that direction. For my friend's sake, I hope they actually go to the second round. But the statistics tell another story.

It's like a rocket, how high will you fly?

I many times compare an artist career with a rocket. You start off and this rocket will take you as high you get, and it's straight up. It's never a long ride.

Compare it be in Eurovison song contest. You are a unknown artist. This show can take your rocket to explode in a great stars with colors and a band like it did for ABBA. Or it can it can go just a small way and then the light goes off.

This also goes along with all careers. When they rocket starts you just hang on to it and goes along with the opportunity it gives to climb higher and higher. Soon as you stop or starts to say no to things then the rocket stops and starts and there is where your career will end. The likeness that it later will go higher is very unlike, yes it happens but that is so rare you can never calculate on it.

I'm listen too t.A.T.u right now. I pretty telling example, they got a rocket shot with "All the things she said". A couple of years ago I got a suggestion to work with one of the girls solo careers, of course we said no the rocket took them up but they followed with it down.

So when an artist that is not a superstar saying that it will take time off it's certain that this is the peak in the career. Most of the time this happens is when the career goes outside their own comfort zone like going abroad, an suddenly have to do some of the things once more and have a bad confidence. Many have stopped right there.

I guess the right way many times is to break abroad and bring it back home, seems like a easier way.

So hang on to the rocket and just ride it.

Eurovison song fail.

I was watching the final of Eurovision song contest and congratulations Portugal. Still is this the best we have in songwriting? It feels like in the 90: s when the Ice Hockey championship was held. Since the timing of the Ice Hockey world cup was held in April the NHL was not done so the best players was never able to get into the teams. Because of that it just became pointless. It was the farmer league making up for the world title.

So many other country’s just take in songwriters that I wouldn’t let send in a demo to me write for their country’s. Neither the Swedish ones are the best we have;  it’s more the semi pros that are writing for Eurovision in most cases. If it is a pro it’s usually song that they can lose anyway.
Portugal won but still the songs sucks. Not in the competition in Eurovision there it was the best. But I compare with the rest of the world. This was 26 horrible songs. I didn’t hear the one that was taken out in the semis, but can just imagine how bad these where. The worst part how bad was the songs that were taken out by this bad song in the semifinal?

It’s no wonder a song from Eurovision has a life span of two weeks.
